For me toy making is
a form of art-therapy. I never really duplicate a style, but this
will give you some idea of my work |

Above Left, a floral style with long dangly feathers (pic 1) Above Right,
combining different shapes and textures gives good movement, sparkly
ribbons also catch the eye (pic 2) |
These little Emu-feather
"birds" I came up with are a huge hit! The sturdy rubbery string has
just enough give and is light enough to make the feathery end flit about
in wonderful patterns. (pic 3) |

I do love my dangly
feathers!

I'd like to thank
Trish for being my unwitting toy model at the show :-)

I enjoy making the flowery looking toys, and apparently a lot cats enjoy them too, because they always sell well. I've also had folks who bought a dozen (or more) to make a table-top display (obviously these are people who have better behaved cats than I do!) | |

Colors and feather styles are subject to availability, but you can specify
the basic idea of what you'd like in your toy: dangly or not, color
preferences, whether to include ribbon, beads, bells or not, if you prefer
strictly a flower looking toy - that sort of thing :-)
Prices vary depending on how complex the toy is, how difficult to construct and how expensive the feathers are - for instance the super skinny long feathers (in pic 1 the pink ones, in pic 4 the lavender) are higher priced. Emu Birds are $5, Legs are $6, Chenille Spiders are $1. The general flower or dangly styles run from $6-$8. I only use very Sturdy Sticks!
With Maine Coons I know how easily some of the cheaper sticks can snap -
mine don't. |
|
The Legs! Almost impossible (for
me) to get a decent picture of them, these are beads with little dangly
rubber legs. |
|
Some people who are
showing their cats prefer un-dyed feathers, like the brown and tans shown
above and below (obviously the purple aren't natural color!) Many of
the colorful feathers do "bleed" when they get wet. |

Shipping fees for an average toy run about $5, though if you want a very long stick it may be higher. I take a lot of liberties when making boxes to ship these in, so don't be surprised at a cardboard Frankenstein creation covered in packing tape arriving at your door! And some of the tape will likely have cat hair stuck in it, as the cats enjoy helping me wrap things :-)
simple but
delightful fun, |
I occasionally get some very cool carriers too, like these designer knock-offs:
